2-Trifluoromethyl acrylonitrile (2TFAN) is a chemical compound that is used in the production of plastics and rubbers. It is a highly stable chemical with good wettability. 2TFAN can be used to produce polyethers, sulfones, sulfonyls, amides and lithium ion batteries. This chemical has been shown to inhibit the polymerization of acrylic acid and polypyrrole. 2-Trifluoromethyl acrylonitrile has also been found to react with calcium carbonate forming an insoluble product which may be useful for water treatment applications.
