1-(Trifluoromethyl)cyclohexanol is a silylating agent, which can be used as a poison. It has been shown to react with alkenes, such as tetrahydrofuran, to form silyl ethers. 1-(Trifluoromethyl)cyclohexanol is also used as a catalyst for the conversion of cycloalkanes into triamides. The product of this reaction is an excellent electron donor and can therefore be used in reactions involving perfluoroalkylation. Ultrasonic irradiation of 1-(trifluoromethyl)cyclohexanol yields a product that can be used in ultrasound catalysts.
1-(Trifluoromethyl)cyclohexanol is not toxic when administered orally or by inhalation, but it is highly toxic when taken internally or injected intravenously.
