Product Information
- 1,2,3-Trifluoro-5-(Trifluoromethyl)Benzene
3,4,5-Trifluorobenzotrifluoride is a benzotrifluoride that is a colorless liquid at room temperature. It reacts with water to form hydrogen fluoride and the anion trifluoroacetate. 3,4,5-Trifluorobenzotrifluoride has antibacterial properties due to its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis. The antibacterial activity of this compound is due to the fact that it contains three fluorine atoms which are able to react with nitrogen atoms in the bacterial cells. 3,4,5-Trifluorobenzotrifluoride also forms an intermediate nitro group during its reaction with hydrogen fluoride. The nitrogen atom in this intermediate is capable of reacting with other nitrogen atoms found in amino acids. This reaction leads to the formation of nitrosamines which cause cancer and other health problems.
