It inhibits the growth of bacteria by interfering with the biosynthesis of mycolic acids and arabinogalactan proteins in the cell wall. 2,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropanoic acid inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and preventing transcription and replication. The high frequency of human activity has been shown using a patch-clamp technique on human erythrocytes.
