- Tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)silane
Tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)silane is a supplement used in the separation of organic compounds. It is used to separate organometallic compounds using phase chromatography. Tetrakis(Pentafluorophenyl)Silane is also used to isolate pentachlorophenyl and acidic components from metal halides, such as chlorine or silicon. The compound reacts with carbon tetrachloride to form tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)chlorosilane, which can be purified by crystallization in ethyl acetate. This compound was first synthesized in 1885 by German chemist Friedrich August Kekulé von Stradonitz, who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1905 for his discovery that carbon atoms can form rings containing other atoms.
