Tetrafluoro-1,3-dioxolane is a chemical compound that is the product of reaction between fluorine and an alkali metal. It has high reactivity with hydroxide to form tetrafluoro-1,3-dioxolanes. Tetrafluoro-1,3-dioxolane can be used as a detergent or in the decarboxylation of alcohols. Tetrafluoro-1,3-dioxolane can also be used for the production of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which is a chemical polymer that has a variety of industrial and commercial uses. This compound can also be used to produce hydrofluoric acid by hydrolysis with water or by reacting with calcium hydroxide.
