4-(Trifluoromethyl)Nicotinic acid is an oxychloride that is a radiation enhancer. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and as a pesticide for killing insects. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)Nicotinic acid is used to enhance the effects of radiation therapy, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme monoamine oxidase (MAO). The molecule is a crystallographic data-introducing agent that can be used in crystallographic studies. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)nicotinic acid also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. This drug also binds polyclonal antibodies and is used as an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) substrate or probe.
