Product Information
- Phenol,2-(trifluoromethyl)-, acetate (9CI)
2-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyl acetate is a chiral quinone methide that can be used as a synthetic intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. 2-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyl acetate has two diastereomers, which are distinguished by their spectroscopic properties. The interactions of this compound with anionic and imidazolinium ions have been studied using solid-phase spectroscopy. This compound also shows a transformation to its phenol form at high temperatures and yields of 2-(trifluoromethyl)phenol are obtained at lower temperatures. This transformation is accompanied by anion formation, which was shown to be dependent on the concentration of the reactant. The reaction mechanism is not yet clear, but it may involve protonation of the electron-deficient carbon atom followed by migration of hydrogen from the methyl group to the electron-rich carbon atom. The resulting carbanion could then
