- 4,4,4-Trifluoro-2-methylbutan-1-ol
4,4,4-Trifluoro-2-methyl-1-butanol is a chemical compound with formula CH3CF3OC(CH2)2OH. It can be produced by amination of acetone with hydrogen fluoride and ammonia in the presence of a palladium catalyst. The reaction is followed by bromination to yield 4,4,4-trifluoro-2-bromo-1-butanol. This compound can also be synthesized from alloisoleucine's natural precursor, methionine. Trifluoromethylation of 4,4,4-trifluoro-2-bromo-1-butanol leads to 4,4,4-(trifluoromethyl)-2-(methylthio)-1-(trifluoromethyl) butanal and finally 4,4,4-(trifluoromethyl)-2-(methylsulf
