2,3,4,5-Tetrafluorobenzotrifluoride is a perfluorinated compound that is used as an additive to dioxane. It has been shown to react with anthracene and hydrogen fluoride, forming the corresponding 2-chloro-1,2-dihydroanthracene and 1,2-dihydrobenzotrifluoride. The reaction of 2,3,4,5-tetrafluorobenzotrifluoride with dimethylformamide also yields chlorides and cocatalyst. This reaction occurs in the presence of water or alcohols. The addition of polyhalogenated compounds such as chloride can be used for the synthesis of tetrahydrofuran or acetonitrile.
