Product Information
2-Aminocyclopropanecarboxylic acid is an alkoxycarbonyl derivative of cyclopropane. It has two stereoisomers, R and S, that are both chiral at the carbon atom bearing the amino group. This is due to the fact that the amino group can be removed from the molecule in two different ways: by nucleophilic attack on the carbonyl carbon or by ammonolysis of one of the ester groups. The R stereoisomer is used as a synthetic intermediate for other biologically active compounds, such as β-amino acids and cyclic amides. The S stereoisomer is found in natural products such as pilocarpine and coniine.
