2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoroisonicotinic acid (TFIA) is a fluorinated ketone that can be synthesized by the cyclodehydration of 2-chloro-3,5,6-trifluorobenzoic acid. TFIA has a number of important industrial uses and is used as a precursor in the production of polyurethane foams. TFIA has been shown to react with chlorine or bromine to produce polyfluoroalkyl compounds. These reactions are used in the production of haloalkanes and fluoropolymers. TFIA also reacts with anions such as chloride, fluoride ion, or hydrazine to form hydrolysis products.
