4-(Trifluoromethyl)-DL-phenylalanine (4-TFMPP) is a fluorinated analogue of phenylalanine. It is a macrocyclic inhibitor that binds to and inhibits the enzyme ketoreductase, which is involved in the synthesis of ketone bodies in the liver. 4-TFMPP has been shown to be effective against cardiovascular disorders, infectious diseases, and cancer cells. 4-TFMPP also inhibits acyltransferases and phenylephrine hydroxylase, which are enzymes that regulate lipid metabolism and neurotransmitter levels in the brain.
