2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl ethanesulfonate is a reactive olefination agent that can be used to synthesize different types of sulfonyl and sulfonic acids. 2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl ethanesulfonate is also used as a reagent in the fragmentation of carbanions and as an electrolyte solution in the synthesis of halides. 2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl ethanesulfonate reacts with carbonyls or carbonyl groups to form esters. This reagent has been shown to be resistant against hydrofluoric acid and may be used for reactions involving alkenes.
