Description

3,3,3-Trifluoro-2-oxopropanoyl fluoride is a colorless gas with a molecular formula of C4F6O. It has a molecular weight of 68.07 and has a boiling point of -129°C. 3,3,3-Trifluoro-2-oxopropanoyl fluoride is used as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals and can be used in the synthesis of esters. The fluorination reaction takes place at the carbon atom that is attached to two hydrogens and one oxygen. The fluorine atom attacks the carbon atom from the top or side and displaces one hydrogen atom. This leaves behind a carbon atom with three bonds to other atoms, which is called a carbonyl group (C=O).
