2-[(Trifluoromethyl)thio]-1,1'-biphenyl is a biphenyl compound that contains chlorine. This compound is synthetically prepared by reacting hydrogen fluoride with 1,2-dichlorobenzene in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction proceeds via displacement of chlorine by hydrogen and forms 2-[(trifluoromethyl)thio]-1,1'-biphenyl. This reagent has been used for chlorinating organic compounds and disrupting reactions.
