2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl 2-chloroprop-2-enoate (TFEPC) is a monomer with high sensitivity. It is used as an initiator for polymerizing substances. It can be used in the production of polymers such as polyurethanes and other plastics. The polymerization process begins with the reaction of a radical species with a double bond to form a covalent bond, which leads to the formation of a new radical species that can react with another double bond to form another covalent bond. This process continues until all available monomers have been consumed. This type of polymerization is called ternary or three-component system polymerization because it requires three components: initiator, monomer, and catalyst. TFEPC is also sensitive to radiation and can be used in radiation curing processes for some types of paints, coatings, and adhesives.
