Description:
2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoro-4-Mercapto-Benzoic Acid is a tumor marker that is taken up by tissue and converted in the body to 3-nitrobenzyl alcohol. The 3-nitrobenzyl alcohol can be detected by positron emission tomography (PET) scanning. 2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoro-4-Mercapto-Benzoic Acid has been shown to have an affinity for acidic tumor tissue and brain tumors but not for normal tissue. This compound has been used in combination with radiation therapy to reduce the size of brain tumors. 2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoro-4-Mercapto Benzoic Acid also inhibits the growth of cancer cells in culture.
