Description

4-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid is an organic compound with the formula C(CF3)HNO2. It is a colorless solid that is soluble in organic solvents. This compound has been used as a ligand to study the electronic spectra of metal ions in solution. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to have a dipole, which causes it to be polar and thus able to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. The molecule has two different resonance structures, which are square planar and optical. The functional theory was used to describe this molecule's spectrum, which was observed using a spectrometer and the solvent effect on this molecule's spectrum was also noted.
