Description

Trifluoromethyl sulfanyl phenyl ethanone is an impurity of the antibiotic ceftriaxone, which is a potent inhibitor of bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to the d-alanyl-d-alanine ligand in the peptidoglycan precursor and prevents cell wall biosynthesis. Trifluoromethyl sulfanyl phenyl ethanone has been shown to be soluble in water and crystallize as colorless crystals with dicalcium phosphate. The crystals are oriented with their long axis perpendicular to the surface of the plate.
