3-(Trifluoromethyl)-5-(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole is an ancillary ligand that has been used as a diode. It is a ligand that has been shown to activate osmium(VI) and rhodium(III) in the presence of photophysical devices. It has also been used to replace picolinic acid in the synthesis of the tetradentate ligands. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)-5-(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole is stable at temperatures up to 100°C and can be used for reactions that require high temperatures. The nitrogen atoms located on the triazole ring are important for its photophysical properties. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)-5-(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole does not have any notable quantum efficiency
