5,5,5-Trifluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-penten-2-one is an unsaturated ketone that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. The compound is a fluorescent molecule with two tautomeric forms. It is also an inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. 5,5,5-Trifluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-penten-2-one has been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens.
