Description

4,5,6-Trichloro-2-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-benzimidazole is a tricyclic imidazole derivative that inhibits the action of dihydrofolate reductase. This enzyme is responsible for the conversion of folic acid to its active form, tetrahydrofolate. The drug also induces uncoupling in cells, which leads to decreased energy production from ATP and increased generation of reactive oxygen species. 4,5,6-Trichloro-2-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-benzimidazole has been shown to inhibit spindle formation in vitro and may have antitumour activity.
