Description:

1,1,1-Trifluorobutan-2-one (TFB) is a reactive intermediate that is generated in the course of a reaction system. The fluorine atom of TFB can be substituted with other functional groups to produce different compounds. TFB reacts with an azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN), which is a powerful radical initiator, to form an acyl radical and an alkyl radical. The acyl radical reacts with another molecule of AIBN to generate a peroxy radical and the alkyl radical undergoes bond cleavage to form two molecules of monocarboxylic acid. This chemical reaction system is used for the synthesis of fatty acids.
