Product Information

Name:
3,3,3-Trifluoropropanoyl chloride
Synonyms:
  • Propanoyl Chloride, 3,3,3-Trifluoro-
  • 3,3,3-Trifluoropropionyl chloride
Description:

3,3,3-Trifluoropropanoyl chloride is an organic compound and a derivative of cellulose. It reacts with alkylthio groups to form covalent linkages that are useful for crosslinking proteins and other biomolecules in the lab. Trifluoromethyl groups can be generated from 3,3,3-trifluoropropanoyl chloride by chlorinating or reacting with chlorine gas. The reaction intermediates are then reacted to form the trifluoromethyl group. This chemical can also react with glutamic acid (glutamate) to produce glutamate receptor subtype selective compounds.
