4-Trifluoromethylbenzophenone is a pentafluorophenyl derivative. It is synthesized by the cross-coupling of boronic acids with 4-trifluoromethylbenzoic acid, which is prepared by the reaction of trifluoroacetic anhydride and benzene. The compound does not show acute toxicities in rats and mice at doses up to 5000 mg/kg. However, it has been shown to be toxic to boronate esters, such as carbenes, substituent effects on ligands, and hydrophobic interactions. These properties make 4-Trifluoromethylbenzophenone useful for a number of applications.
