Description

Undec-10-enohydrazide is a fatty acid that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the 3-mercaptopropionic acid in the bacterial cell membrane and preventing it from being converted into active thiols. This prevents the synthesis of proteins, leading to cell death. The bactericidal concentration of undec-10-enohydrazide has been determined in a number of assays using various organisms and concentrations of sodium carbonate or anhydrous sodium chloride. Undec-10-enohydrazide also has antibacterial activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE).
