10-Undecynoic Acid is a fatty acid that acts as a chemical messenger and activator of gene expression. It is used to create polymer films which are used for the treatment of chronic wounds, such as pressure ulcers. 10-Undecynoic Acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of oral pathogens in vivo by blocking the enzymatic activity of p-450 enzymes. This action prevents the synthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxanes, which have an important role in cell proliferation and inflammation. 10-Undecynoic Acid also inhibits peroxisome proliferation in rats and liver microsomes, which can lead to cancer.
