Voxtalisib is a small molecule inhibitor of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Voxtalisib has been shown to inhibit the cellular proliferation of malignant brain and colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. In vitro studies have shown that voxtalisib induces apoptosis in k562 cells. The apoptotic pathway induced by voxtalisib involves caspase-dependent and -independent pathways, which leads to the activation of pro-apoptotic protein such as BAX and PARP. Voxtalisib has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. It has been found to induce apoptosis in skin cancer cells and can be used as an experimental model for other types of cancers, including solid tumours such as breast cancer or prostate cancer.
