Veratrosine is a natural drug that inhibits the growth of fungi. It has been shown to have antifungal effects by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an important component of fungal cell membranes. Veratrosine also has a matrix effect on cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the expression of genes related to cell proliferation and cause apoptosis. Veratrosine has significant cytotoxicity in cancer cells and other mammalian cells, but not in bacterial cells.
