(R)-Vapol is a model system of aziridination. It was synthesized by the reaction of ethyl diazoacetate with copper complex and nucleophilic attack by trifluoroacetic acid. The reaction yields an aziridine that contains a hydroxy group, sulfonic acids, and carbonyl oxygens. This compound has been shown to be asymmetric in its synthesis and has a hydroxyl group. The molecule also contains an aromatic hydrocarbon with a nucleophilic and electrophilic carbon.
