Product Information

Name:
D-Valacyclovir
Description:

Valacyclovir is an antiviral drug that belongs to the class of nucleoside analogues. It is a prodrug that is converted to acyclovir in vivo. Valacyclovir has been used for the treatment of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections, including genital herpes and cold sores, since the late 1980s. Valaciclovir's use as a component of two-way crossover active antiretroviral therapy (ART) in HIV-infected patients with CD4 cell counts greater than 200 cells/mm3 is currently being investigated. The drug inhibits viral replication by interfering with viral DNA synthesis through inhibition of viral DNA polymerase and viral DNA gyrase. This effect results in decreased levels of HBV-DNA, which can lead to a reduction in plasma HbsAg levels and improvement in liver function tests. Valacyclovir also reduces the levels of HbV-DNA and HbV-RNA
