Description:

Vinyltrimethylsilane is a solid catalyst that is used for cross-linking of polymers, such as polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, and polymethyl methacrylate. The reaction mechanism involves the formation of a metal carbonyl complex with malonic acid and subsequent coordination to the vinyl group of the silane. Vinyltrimethylsilane can be used in low-energy metathesis reactions, such as the conversion of propylene into ethylene. It has been shown to be an optimum cross-linker at concentrations between 0.5% and 1%.
