(2R,5S)-2,5-Dimethyl-morpholine HCl is a carboxylic acid that can be used in the manufacture of medicines. It is an aliphatic compound with a strong alkaline property. The 2R,5S form is obtained by reacting methyl chloride with dimethoxymethane in the presence of hydrochloric acid. This product can be separated into its individual components by recrystallization and solvents are used to dissolve it. (2R,5S)-2,5-Dimethyl-morpholine HCl is soluble in butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, and other organic solvents. When this substance dissociates in water it creates a pollution problem for the environment.
