Yttrium trifluoroacetate is a compound that has the chemical formula Y(CFSO)3. It is a colorless solid with a melting point of 687°C and decomposes at 810°C. Yttrium trifluoroacetate can be obtained by reacting 3-mercaptopropionic acid with sodium trifluoroacetate in the presence of hydrochloric acid. The resulting salt, yttrium trifluoroacetate, is soluble in water and reacts with strong bases to form yttrium hydroxide. This compound is used as an optical coating on optical fibers and CDs, as well as an anti-reflection agent in coatings for lenses and mirrors. It also has shown to be effective as a pancreatic lipase inhibitor, which is useful for treating obesity.
