Z-Arg-Arg-7-amido-4-methylcoumarin HCl is a protease inhibitor that belongs to the group of serine protease inhibitors. It is used in biochemical experiments and cell culture studies to inhibit the activity of various proteases. Z-Arg-Arg-7-amido-4-methylcoumarin HCl has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on protein degradation by inhibiting the activity of autophagy, which may be due to its ability to sequester lysosomal proteases. This compound was also found to be effective in preventing apoptosis induced by imatinib in k562 cells and primary cells.
