Description:

Zinc phosphate is a compound that contains zinc and phosphorus in a 1:1 ratio. Zinc phosphates are used for their resistance to corrosion and as a heat-resistant coating for metal surfaces. They are also used in cell culture as an antibacterial agent, to neutralize the pH of media, and as a buffer system in biochemical assays. Zinc phosphates can be prepared by reacting zinc chloride with phosphorus pentoxide followed by hydrochloric acid treatment. The reaction is exothermic and produces hydrogen gas, which can be explosive when it comes into contact with organic materials such as paper or cloth.
