Description:

Zinc dithiophosphate is a chemical species that has the chemical formula Zn3PS2. It is a white crystalline solid that is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as acetone. This compound can be used to produce polycarboxylic acids and has shown to be a good oxidation catalyst for reactions of linear model. Zinc dithiophosphate is formed by the reaction between zinc oxide and sulfur trioxide. The structure of this compound consists of alternating zinc and phosphorus atoms, with the zinc atoms being coordinated by three sulfur atoms. Zinc dithiophosphate has been used in polymerization reactions involving boron nitride and molybdenum, and also as an additive to iron oxide pigments to enhance their stability against the formation of rust.
Zinc dithiophosphate's chemical interactions with nitrogen atoms are important because they are responsible for its catalytic properties.
