- Zirconium ethoxide (Zr(OEt)4)
Zirconium(IV) ethoxide is an inorganic acid that is used in the synthesis of fatty acids and other organic compounds. It can be synthesized by reacting hydrogen chloride with titanium tetrachloride. The particle diameter is approximately 1.8 nm and it has a thermal expansion coefficient of 6 × 10-7/°C. Zirconium(IV) ethoxide reacts with hydrochloric acid to form hydrogen chloride and zirconium oxide, which can then be reacted with aromatic hydrocarbons to produce a variety of products. Structural analysis has shown that this compound has a tetrahedral shape at room temperature, but changes to a trigonal bipyramidal shape at higher temperatures.
