Description:

Ziram is a nephrotoxic drug that can cause kidney damage. Ziram is an inorganic compound that is used as an antimicrobial agent and has been shown to be effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Ziram inhibits the activity of enzymes such as catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase by binding to their heme groups. This inhibition leads to oxidative injury and neuronal death. The optimum concentration of ziram for bacterial growth inhibition is 0.2 mM which corresponds to a dose of about 0.4 mg/kg body weight per day for humans. Ziram can be detected in plasma by mass spectrometry at concentrations of 1 - 2 µg/L after 1 - 2 hours following administration, with a half-life of about 12 hours. Ziram binds with high affinity to proteins such as albumin, alpha1-acid glycoprotein, and alpha2-mac
