Zinc undecylenate is a fatty acid that has been used as an antimicrobial agent for pharmaceutical preparations. It has been shown to react with calcium stearate and protocatechuic acid to form a reaction solution. Zinc undecylenate has also been shown to have biological properties in liver cells, preventing population growth and water vapor production in the presence of benzalkonium chloride. It is effective against herpes simplex virus, but not against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
