Description:
Methyldopate is a drug that belongs to the class of ester hydrochlorides. It has been used as a vasoconstrictor in the treatment of congestive heart failure and as a local anesthetic. Methyldopate is also used to study polymer compositions and biological samples, including bowel disease and plate test. The α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) mediates the response to this drug. In addition, methyldopate has been shown to have locomotor activity in rats and an analytical method for its detection in human serum or maternal blood.
Methyldopate is also metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, which may cause metabolic disorders such as hyperammonemia, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, or hypoglycemia.
