α-L-Rhamnose
Synonyms:
  • 6-Deoxy-α-L-mannopyranose
  • Rhamnopyranose, α-L-
  • α-L-Rhamnopyranose
  • α-L-Mannopyranose, 6-deoxy-
Description:

α-L-Rhamnose is a probe that is used for detecting the presence of drugs in the body. It binds to sugars and proteins, which are abundant in cells, and fluoresces when excited with ultraviolet light. α-L-Rhamnose can be used to detect bacterial strains and has been shown to have an effect on locomotor activity in mice. When this probe is mixed with the reaction solution containing DNA polymerase, it will bind to the sugar component of DNA and fluoresce. The detection sensitivity of α-L-Rhamnose can be increased by adding kinetic energy to the reaction mixture. This probe also reacts with glycosidic bonds, which are common in infectious diseases such as tuberculosis.
