Product Information
- (4-Iodophenyl)(Phenyl)Methanone
4-Iodobenzophenone is a reactive intermediate that is used in organic synthesis. It has been shown to react with benzoyl chloride to form benzoic acid, and reacts with acetyl chloride to form acetic anhydride. This product can also be used as a protecting group for amine groups. 4-Iodobenzophenone is only slightly soluble in water and reacts with acids. The product can be prepared by the reaction of phenol with sodium hypochlorite or potassium chlorate in acetonitrile solution. This reaction produces two types of products, depending on the concentration of the reactants: one type is formed at low concentrations and another at higher concentrations. The kinetic method was used to determine the relative rates of these reactions.
