4-Dodecanone is a non-selective chlorinating agent that is used for the conversion of hydrocarbons. It reacts with organic compounds to produce chlorides and peroxides. 4-Dodecanone also reacts with a variety of oxidizing agents to form other products, such as acid catalysts and peroxy acids. 4-Dodecanone has been shown to be an effective catalyst in the selective oxidation of primary alcohols. The compound has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on prostaglandin synthesis by competitively binding the prostaglandin receptor, which leads to decreased production of prostaglandins. 4-Dodecanone is not carcinogenic or mutagenic in animal studies.
