Nonane-2,4-dione is a synthetic diphenyl ether that is used as an antireflection agent and corrosion inhibitor. It also has industrial applications as a polymerization initiator and metal chelator. Nonane-2,4-dione can react with chloride to form a molecule with the formula CHClO. This compound is also known as dioctadecyl chloroformate. The molecule consists of two octadecyl groups linked by a single bond to the chlorine atom in the center of the molecule. The octadecane group on one end of the molecule has one double bond and two hydrogen atoms while the octadecane group on the other end of the molecule has no double bonds and three hydrogen atoms.
