2-Phenoxyethyl Acetate is a diphenyl ether that can be synthesized by the acylation reaction of phenol with an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid. 2-Phenoxyethyl Acetate is used in anticancer therapies as a radiation sensitizer. It reacts with oxygen to form a hydroxyl radical, which reacts with the DNA and causes cell death. 2-Phenoxyethyl Acetate has also been used as a polymerization initiator for polyurethane resins. The chemical's hydroxyl group allows it to react with other molecules, such as methyl cinnamate, to form esters. The chemical's carbonyl group makes it susceptible to oxidation by ozone, leading to its use as an ozone depleting agent. 2-Phenoxyethyl Acetate is also used in the production of fatty acids and phenolic acids.
