Product Information
- 1H-Pyrrole-2,5-dimethanol
- 2,5-Bis(hydroxymethyl)pyrrole
- Pyrrole-2,5-diyldi[methanol]
- Pyrrole-2,5-dimethanol
The reaction of 5-hydroxymethyl-1H-pyrrole with formaldehyde leads to the formation of the corresponding methoxycarbonyl derivative. This intermediate is then reacted with hydrochloric acid to give 5-(hydroxymethyl)-1H-pyrrol-2-yl]methanol, which is a crystalline solid. The molecular conformation of this compound has been determined using X-ray crystallography and populations analysis. Decoupling experiments show that the hydrogen atoms in this molecule are synthsized through intermediacy of pyrrole, and yield values are found to be in agreement with those predicted by theory.
