5-Chloro-2-methylaniline Hydrochloride is a drug that has been used to treat angina. It reduces the oxygen demand of the heart by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine and histamine at nerve endings in the heart. This drug also has been shown to be effective in treating Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, as well as Parkinson's disease. 5-Chloro-2-methylaniline Hydrochloride is an inhibitor of cholinesterase, which breaks down acetylcholine in the brain. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to increased levels of acetylcholine in synapses, resulting in an increase in neurotransmitter activity. This effect may be due to its ability to inhibit ganglion cells and plexuses, which are involved in transmission of nerve impulses, or through its ability to reduce neuronal excitability by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels.
