4-Chloro-2,6-dimethylquinoline is an alkaline hydrolysis product of 2,6-dimethylaniline. It has been shown to have a microbicidal effect against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. 4-Chloro-2,6-dimethylquinoline has also been found to be active against Candida albicans, Candida parapsilosis, and Aspergillus niger. 4-Chloro-2,6-dimethylquinoline inhibits the growth of fungi by binding to their DNA and preventing transcription. 4-Chloro-2,6-dimethylquinoline also has antifungal activity against Trichophyton mentagrophyte (a dermatophyte) and Microsporum canis (a yeast).
